Full terms and conditions for the “Win a week with Ropes & Gray” competition

1. The Promoter

1.1           The Promoter is Ropes & Gray International LLP (“Ropes & Gray”) of 60 Ludgate Hill London EC4M 7AW.

2. The Competition

2.1           The title of the Competition is “Win a week with Ropes & Gray”.

2.2           The entrant must submit a video no more than three minutes long in response to the question “Is national security more important than individual privacy?” (the “Competition”). One winner will be selected by the Promoter and will receive one week of work experience with the Promoter in their London office.

3. How to enter

3.1           To enter the Competition the entrant must register on the Lawyer 2B website [] and submit the video application in accordance with the requirements specified there.

3.2           The Competition will run from 09:00 on 14 October 2015 (the “Opening Date”) to 23:59 on 15 November 2015 (the “Closing Date”) inclusive.

3.3           All Competition entries must be received by no later than 23:59 on the Closing Date. All Competition entries received after the Closing Date are automatically disqualified from the Competition.

3.4           The Competition entries will be judged by a panel made up of various partners, associates and other staff of the Promoter, based on presentation skills, quality of argument, persuasiveness and fluency. The decision of the panel of judges will be final.

3.5           The Promoter will not accept:

3.5.1      responsibility for Competition entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of the cause, including, for example, as a result of any postal failure, equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind; or

3.5.2      proof of posting or transmission as proof of receipt of entry to the Competition.

3.6 The Promoter provides no guarantee of delivery of entries. Email submissions may in fact not be received, for example, due to security firewalls and the Promoter accepts no responsibility or liability for such incident.

3.7          By submitting a Competition entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions. 

4. Eligibility

4.1           The Competition is open to all undergraduates, postgraduates, graduate diploma in law (“GDL”) and legal practice course (“LPC”) students aged 18 or over, except:

4.1.1       employees of the Promoter or its holding or subsidiary companies;

4.1.2      employees of agents or suppliers of the Promoter or its holding or subsidiary companies, who are professionally connected with the Competition or its administration; or

4.1.3      members of the immediate families or households of 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 above.

4.2           In entering the Competition, you confirm that you are eligible to claim the Prize (as defined below). The Promoter may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the Competition.

4.3           There is a limit of one entry to the Competition per person. Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted and joint submissions are not allowed.

4.4           The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify you if it has reasonable grounds to believe you have breached any of the terms and conditions, any applicable law, infringed the intellectual property of any other person, or if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the Competition.

5. The prize

5.1           The prize is one week of legal work experience at Ropes & Gray’s London office (the “Prize”). The legal work experience is for one person, for one week (five working days) between March and August 2016, inclusive. The work experience will be paid at a competitive rate to be determined by the Promoter.

5.2           The Prize does not include payment for food and drink, spending money, tax or personal expenses. Reasonable travel expenses to and from the Ropes & Gray London office will be paid if the winner resides outside the M25 area on provision of a valid receipt. Any other costs incurred in addition to those set out above and that are incidental to the fulfilment of the Prize are the responsibility of the winner.

5.3           The Prize is not negotiable or transferable, and there is no cash alternative. 

5.4           In order to claim the Prize you must respond to the winning offer within ten business days of the Announcement Date (defined below).

6. Winner announcement

6.1           The winner of the Competition will be announced on 26 November 2015 (the “Announcement Date”). The Promoter reserves the right to change the date of the Announcement Date.

6.2           If the Promoter so chooses, the winner may be announced at a finalists’ event to be held on the Announcement Date (the “Finalists’ Event”). If held, the Finalists’ Event will be run by the Promoter in conjunction with Lawyer 2B. Finalists will be invited to attend by email correspondence from Lawyer 2B.

6.3           Reasonable travel expenses to and from the Finalists’ Event for finalists residing outside the M25 will be reimbursed by the Promoter on provision of a valid receipt to the Promoter at the Finalists’ Event. No travel expenses will be reimbursed without a valid receipt.

6.4           The decision of the Promoter is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.

6.5           The Promoter will contact the winner personally as soon as practicable after the Announcement Date regarding the details of the Prize, using the telephone number or email address provided with the Competition entry.

7. Claiming the prize

7.1           If you are the winner of the Prize, you will have ten business days from the Announcement Date to claim the Prize by contacting the Ropes & Gray recruitment team on If you do not claim the Prize by this date, your claim will become invalid.

7.2           The Prize may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf.

7.3           The Promoter will make all reasonable efforts to contact the winner. If the winner cannot be contacted or is not available, or has not claimed their Prize within ten business days of the Announcement Date, the Promoter reserves the right to offer the Prize to the next eligible entrant selected from the correct entries that were received before the Closing Date.

7.4           The winner will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement, as would be customary for accepting a work experience placement, in order to claim the Prize.

7.5           The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to claim or take up the Prize.

8. Limitation of liability

8.1           Insofar as permitted by law, the Promoter, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or any other entrant, or accept any liability for any loss or damage occurring as a result of entering the Competition.

8.2           The Promoter is not affiliated with Lawyer 2B, Launch Pad or any of their affiliates, and accepts no responsibility for the use by Lawyer 2B, Launchpad or their affiliates of any entrant’s details, Competition entries or other information that has become available to them as a result of the Competition.

9. Ownership of Competition entries and intellectual property rights

9.1           The Promoter does not claim any rights of ownership in your Competition entry.

9.2           You agree that the Promoter may, but is not required to, make your entry available on its website and any other media, whether now known or invented in the future, and in connection with any publicity of the Competition.

9.3           You confirm that:

9.3.1      all videos, images and other submissions are originals works, are not defamatory and do not infringe third-party rights;

9.3.2      there are no conflicting agreements in place that restrict the usage of these images or other submissions;

9.3.3      you have consent to use any third-party image in the entry and rights have been waived for that use. If a third party image is of a person under 18, parental or guardian consent must be provided; and

9.3.4      you will produce evidence of any required consents at the Promoter’s request, or risk being disqualified from entering the Competition.

10. Data protection and publicity

10.1        If you are the winner of the Competition, you agree that the Promoter may use your details to announce the winner of this Competition and for any other reasonable and related promotional purposes.

10.2        By entering the Competition, you agree that any personal data (as defined under the Data Protection Act 1998) provided by you with the Competition entry may be held and used only by the Promoter or its agents and suppliers to administer the Competition.

11. General

11.1        If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the Competition.

11.2        The Promoter reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the Competition without notice where it becomes necessary to do so. Any changes to the rules or cancellation of the Competition will be posted on the Lawyer 2B website. It is the responsibility of entrants to keep themselves informed as to any changes.

11.3        In the event of any dispute regarding the rules, the conduct or results of the Competition, or any other matter relating to the Competition, the decision of the Promoter shall be final and unchallengeable and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into, comment issued, or reason given in respect of any decision made by the Promoter.

11.4        These terms and conditions are governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
