On 10 and 11 September 2013, SOAS will host a conference on the work of the United Nations War Crimes Commission.
‘Reinforcing International Human Rights Standards: Lessons from the United Nations War Crimes Commission’ will examine themes such as crimes against humanity, collective responsibility and torture and will focus on key issues discussed by the Commission and addressed by member nations through their national trials.
The conference will be run by the International Bar Association and the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy and take place’s on SOAS’s campus in central London.
Justice Richard Goldstone will chair the event and open the conference with a keynote address. Confirmed speakers include internationally-respected human rights law expert Professor William Schabas and Dr Mark Ellis, director of the International Bar Association.
