Around 50 university law society committee members from across the country took to the water last week in Lawyer 2B’s summer boat party.
The annual event, now in its third year, kicked off at Kaplan Law School on 23 June, with Kaplan’s Bar Professional Training Course director James Wakefield starting proceedings by holding an introductory talk with the aspiring lawyers.
The University of Warwick law society president Jasmine Schembri said: “It was a fantastic evening. We had the opportunity to network with other [law society executives] from across the country as well as with law firms, providing us with the chance to form partnerships and to meet key contacts for the future. It was a great way to celebrate the end of exams.”
A host of law firms including Ashurst, CMS Cameron McKenna, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Macfarlanes, Norton Rose and Olswang joined the students on a riverboat cruise along the Thames to take part in ‘speed-networking’ along with a slap-up BBQ and plenty of jugs of Pimms.
“The informal nature of the speed networking helped to provide a relaxed environment and foundation for further discussions,” said King’s College London law society president Priscilla Purmessur.
“I found the evening both enjoyable and useful. It was also really nice to meet fellow presidents from other societies,” added Purmessur.
