Lawyer 2B officially kicked off its annual road trip yesterday (13 October) with a visit to the law fair at the University of Kent based in the beautiful cathedral city of Canterbury.
As in previous years the fair attracted hundreds of students eager to find out more about a career in law.
The event was also an opportunity for us to get a first glimpse of law firms’ new graduate recruitment campaigns and indeed to get our hands on a freebie or two, which this year included an ice cream sandwich! Puzzled? So were we. But if you want to find out more then we suggest visiting the TLT stand at your nearest law fair.
Meanwhile, Berwin Leighton Painser (BLP) was handing out chilli-flavoured chocolate, which we must say tastes very yummy indeed. The chillies are part of BLP’s new graduate recruitment slogan – “Berwin Leighton Paisnericity – You’ve either got it or not” – which we thought is pretty clever. In other words chillies have an immediate impact as you’re never too sure how hot one is going to be until you bite into it.
But alas, it isn’t just BLP that’s embraced the chilli theme. SNR Denton’s law fair giveaway this year was a packet of chilli seeds to go with its new campaign taglines “Can you take the heat?” and “Recipe for Success.”
Undoubtedly, both firms will be slightly gutted that theirs wasn’t the only chilli-themed graduate recruitment campaign. But if it’s any consolation we think both are pretty hot.
Anyway, that’s enough about freebies because as you should all know by now law fairs are also a valuable source of information. However, to get the most out of them you need to do your homework so you don’t ask silly questions like – what’s a vacation scheme? So, before attending your university’s law fair do a bit of research on the organisations that will be exhibiting and try to swot up on some basic jargon – most of which can be found on our website – www.lawyer2b.com.
See you at Nottingham Law Fair next week.
PS – if you think you’ve left it too late to break into the legal profession think again.
