US firm gives £500 bonus to first-class trainees

New York heavyweight Weil Gotshal & Manges is offering hard cash to future trainees who score a first in their degrees.

The firms London office will pay students a cash prize of £500 if they obtain the highest degree classification this summer. Weil’s London office hires around 12 trainees a year.

Weil stepped up its recruitment campaign by several gears last month after boosting its newly qualified pay to a whopping £90,000. This put Weil towards the top of the market in terms of US firms in London. West coast firm Latham & Watkins still offers newly-qualifieds the most, with £96,000, while Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton offers £92,000.
