Why did you decide to train as a solicitor?

I really enjoyed the various work experience placements I undertook before starting the GDL and I felt it would be something I would be good at. My degree course equipped me with many of the skills required to be a successful solicitor, such as time management, analytical skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

What were the biggest challenges you faced when trying to secure a training contract?

Making myself stand out among other exceptional candidates. Essentially, most of the people applying for the same training contracts as you are academically capable, have similar work experience and could easily become competent lawyers. The difficulty is making yourself stand out, demonstrating who you are and what you could offer a firm.

What was the toughest training contract interview question you were asked (at any firm) and how did you answer?

Why do you want to be a solicitor? I think this is a difficult question to answer without giving a trite response. Essentially, I answered as above, it felt right!

What are the most enjoyable aspects of your job?

Working with some exceptional people at all levels of the business. I genuinely respect and enjoy working with my colleagues.

What about your job didn’t you expect before you started?

There is a lot of regulatory/administrative tasks that must be completed which can sometimes hinder your ability to get through the work.
