The University of Law has named John Latham as its new Provost and CEO, and tasked him with taking the business into new global markets.
Latham was formerly vice president for international business development at Laureate Education, a network of private universities spanning 30 countries. As Chief Operation Officer of Liverpool University, he established the institution’s online business and its Chinese university, XJTLU.
He has been briefed to extend the University of Law’s reach into “select global markets,” as well as delivering growth across its UK centres.
Latham replaces Nigel Savage in the role of Provost, although Savage will remain president.
Savage said: “Our appointment of John is a real coup and significant milestone in the development of the university. I am greatly looking forward to working with him and supporting him in the new role – not least because he unambiguously shares our respect for the unique heritage of the university, our aspirations for the future and above all our commitment to providing leadership in delivering the highest quality learning and development and thereby setting the highest standards as we move into global markets.”
Latham said: “The University of Law enjoys a terrific reputation, in the UK and internationally, and I am delighted to be joining at such an exciting time – for both the university and the sector. The University of Law is already the world’s largest provider of legal education and training and I believe it is uniquely well positioned to continue to define what quality higher education provision can do to best serve the needs of students and employers.”
