  • Given that there are so many articles criticising the student debt associated with HE study, I find it very disappointing to see the ILEX route completely overlooked here. In England and Wales the legal profession is not split into two - Legal Executives are also fully qualified lawyers. Is this article sponsored by the university sector/student loan providers? If not, shame on you for not providing the 'bigger' picture. Access to the profession for all ? Not with guides like this!

  • Legal Executives are not fully qualified lawyers at all, the are lawyers true, but cannot practice law on thier own without being under the supervision of a solicitor. Additionally they have limited rights of audience. Some of these challenges are being addressed as time goes by but the main problem is the difference in the training between solicitors and legal executives and this needs redress if execs are to flourish.

  • There is nothing depressing on this earth to graduate with a 2.2 but unable to complete LPC dueto lack of funds. Graduated 2006 and still have a lawyer blood. Have commercial and work experience. How do I go about my situation

  • I always thought that the training contract was the hardest stage. Now after reading all the comments above I'm realizing that the whole profession is tough.

I'm LPC graduate with a 2:2 and extremely poor A Levels. I was looking into redoing the LLB itself because I barely made an effort the first time round. I was advised that its probably better to do a Masters. Is that better? Do law firms even look at that because ALL the applications I see say minimum 2:1?
