Wragges defers trainees

Birmingham giant Wragge & Co has become the latest law firm to delay the start dates of its future trainee solicitors.

The firm has approached its September 2009 and September 2010 intakes and asked for volunteers to defer for 12 months.

Wragges will pay an unconditional £5,000 to those trainees who decide to take up the offer.

Meanwhile, Pinsent Masons has had 26 per cent of its future joiners take up its offer of deferral.

Out of 134 future trainees for intakes in September 2009, March 2010 and September 2010, 35 will be deferring their start dates.

All together 15 have agreed to defer by 12 months and will receive £7,000 while 20 joiners have decided to defer by six months for a payment of £3,000.
