Wragge & Co has announced that it will be keeping on 11 of its 16 September qualifiers.
Six of the 11 trainees who are staying on as newly-qualified (NQ) solicitors will be based in the firm’s Birmingham headquarters, with the remaining five working at its London branch.
Three trainees will join the real estate team as NQs, while commercial litigation and intellectual property will take two apiece. The final four qualifiers will take up positions in the corporate, contentious construction, employment and commercial, IT and outsourcing departments.
When combined with the four of six who stayed on in March, Wragges’ total retention for the 2013 calendar year comes to 15 of 22, or 68 per cent. This is a drop from 2012, when all six of the firm’s spring qualifiers and 21 of 25 autumn cohort were retained, giving a total figure of 87 per cent.
Graduate recruitment manager Chloe Lloyd commented: “We deliberately keep our trainee intake small to provide excellent training, so there were more NQ roles available than the number of trainees qualifying. Unfortunately, some have opted to change location, while others did not secure the particular role they wanted. Each of the trainees set to qualify in September would be an asset to the firm. They are bright, resourceful and focused on providing a great service to our clients. We are helping those NQs leaving us to secure roles in other firms where we are sure they will be very successful.”
