Will my previous career stop me succeeding in law?

I have been the GM for a hotel for 4 years but I want to move into the law – but will my career background hold me back?

I have spent the last 14 years working in hospitality, doing a variety of roles to work my way up to become a GM. But I feel I need a new challenge and have been researching converting into law. I have managed to secure some informal work shadowing to get a feel for work in a law firm, and have really enjoyed it so far. But how am I going to sell myself above those who have wanted to be lawyers since they were toddlers? Is my career background too faraway from the law to succeed?
