Weightmans is to recruit greater numbers of apprentices, following on from an initial launch earlier in the year.
The first Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Legal Services in the country was offered by the firm in May (13 March 2013). It currently employs around 15 apprentices and now plans to recruit a further ten by the end of the current financial year in April 2014.
Learning and development manager Sarah Hardy-Pickering said: “We are looking to take on ten apprentices, a mix of Levels 3 and 4, across our larger offices. We’re looking at the 19-24 age range and will recruit in Leicester and Birmingham, then London and the South East.”
She added: “Some offices are more suited to apprenticeships, in terms of supervisors and range of work – we have a number of people who are now asking for apprentices.”
Weightmans is currently applying for an Alternative Business Structure (ABS) licence from the Solicitors Regulation Authority to allow it to make non-lawyers partners of the business.
Hardy-Pickering commented: “There is always the possibility that a really keen and ambitious apprentice will become one of our partners in the future, as it fits very nicely with ABSs and widening access.”
