Young Legal Minds is a negotiation competition in which student teams represent the different parties involved in an in-house deal.
This year’s inauagural event pitted teams from City University, the University of Law and BPP University against each other, in front of the general counsel of multinational companies, including the UK arm of Coca-Cola.
The deal was between an exisiting technology SME and a well-known business personality looking to become the primary stakeholder in the business, following the existing CEO’s retirement. Issues discussed by the teams included retirement terms, shares of profit and turnover and SME culture and ethics, all classic issues found in deals between SMEs and larger corporations.
The three teams decided not to go ahead with the proposed deal, with members of the team from City University recognised as the best negotiators.
