Sullivan & Cromwell to retain all of its first-ever trainee group this autumn

Sullivan & Cromwell will retain 100 per cent of its autumn 2015 qualifying trainee cohort as newly qualified (NQ) lawyers.

The four NQs will be based in the firm’s transactional practice and will work on capital markets, M&A, project finance, leveraged finance and restructuring.

The cohort was the first recruited by Sullivan & Cromwell’s London office and all four are currently completing their final seats abroad. Two are in the New York office while one trainee is in Paris and another is working in Hong Kong.

The firm will increase its trainee intake size by 50 per cent this year, recruiting six trainees to start in 2017 and qualify in 2019.

Sullivan & Cromwell joins a host of US firms with high retention this season. Shearman & Sterling and Weil Gotshal & Manges both clocked up 100 per cent retention while Latham & Watkins announced a 95 per cent rate, keeping on 20 of 21 trainees as NQs.
