Kaplan Law School is continuing to close in on its rival Legal Practice Course (LPC) providers by adding a twelfth firm to its expanding law firm roster.
The school, based in London’s trendy Borough Market, has struck a deal with Shearman & Sterling to be the sole provider of the LPC and Graduate Diploma is Law (GDL) to all of the firm’s future trainee solicitors from September 2011.
Shearman’s graduate recruitment partner Iain Scoon told Lawyer2B.com: “We liked the smaller class sizes and emphasis on classroom time that Kaplan offered as well as the quality of its courses and pastoral care arrangements.”
Kaplan’s other clients include Bird & Bird, Bates Wells Braithwaite, Field Fisher Waterhouse, Holman Fenwick & Willan, Ince & Co, Manches, Mayer Brown, Mills & Reeve, Nabarro, Penningtons and Trowers & Hamlins.
BPP Law School and the College of Law meanwhile have 19 and 22 law firms on their rosters respectively.
The deal between Shearman and Kaplan will not have an impact on the LPC and GDL maintenance grants paid to students by the New York headquartered firm, which is currently £7,000 per course.
