Olswang retains 64 per cent of September qualifiers

Olswang has posted the lowest newly qualified (NQ) retention rate to date after revealing it is holding onto 64 per cent of its qualifying trainee solicitors.

The top 20 firm offered 10 positions to its 14-strong cohort and nine accepted roles after one trainee decided to relocate.

In a statement a spokesperson said: “We had vacancies in each practice area group , some of which were oversubscribed.

“For those leaving the firm on qualification, we will of course support them in their search for a new position.”

The news follows White & Case revealing a September NQ retention rate of 81 per cent, holding onto 13 out of 16 trainees (18 July 2012).

Meanwhile, Ashurst announced a rate of 83 per cent for its autumn qualifiers, keeping 24 out of 29 trainees (11 July 2012).

Elsewhere, Slaughter and May and SNR Denton revealed 87.5 per cent and 83 per cent retention rates, respectively (9 July 2012).
