City firms Nabarro and Trowers & Hamlins have revealed their retention rates for autumn 2014.
Nabarro’s retention stands at 81 per cent, keeping 13 of a cohort of 16 trainees on as newly-qualified (NQ) lawyers. It offered one other trainee a role, but that person chose not to accept the firm’s offer. The result represents a slight fall from this point last year, when 15 of 18 trainees were kept on, translating to a rate of 83 per cent (7 August 2013).
Ten of the current flock of NQs will qualify into the London office, with the remaining three working in Sheffield.
Two NQs will work in real estate, another two will sit in disputes resolution and a further pair in property litigation. The employment, IP, funds and indirect real estate and infrastructure, construction and energy departments will take one NQ apiece as will the corporate, competition and tax practices.
Meanwhile, Trowers & Hamlins has retained just 64 per cent of its trainees, or seven of 11, a step down from its autumn 2013 rate of 86 per cent. One of the cohort of 11 chose not to apply to the firm.
Of the seven staying with the firm, five will join the London office. One will head to Dubai while the other will work in Manchester. The seven will take up NQ positions across the banking and finance, commercial property, corporate, dispute resolution and litigation and private wealth departments.
Training partner Tonia Secker said: “On behalf of the entire firm, I want to congratulate these excellent trainees. They have all worked very hard over the last two years, and it is a great pleasure to be able to offer them permanent roles. We look forward to continuing to work with them and support them as they establish their careers in the law.”
