Linklaters posts 86 per cent NQ retention rate

Linklaters has announced it is keeping 86 per cent of its spring qualifying trainee solicitors.

The magic circle firm is holding onto 49 out of a 57-strong cohort. The firm made 50 offers to the 55 trainees that applied for positions.

The results sit fairly steady on previous qualification rounds. In spring 2011 the firm posted an 82 per cent newly qualified (NQ) retention rate, with 49 out of 60 trainees accepting positions at the firm.

Meanwhile for summer 2011 53 out of 57 accepted NQ roles, giving it a retention rate of 93 per cent.

The news follows Herbert Smith achieved 88 per cent retention rate, keeping 30 out of the 40 trainees due to qualify in March (6 February 2012).

All the magic circle firms have now revealed their spring 2012 retention rates, with Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance and Freshfield Bruckhaus Deringer posting 89 per cent, 76 per cent and 89 per cent respectively (27 January 2012).

The only top 20 law firms still to reveal their March 2012 retention rates are Eversheds, Simmons & Simmons and Slaughter and May.
