The much-vaunted legal education and training review has started to gain momentum after the three largest legal regulators announced key appointments to take it forward.
’Review 2020’ as it has become known, is a joint project involving the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), the Bar Standards Board and the Institute of Legal Executives Professional Standards.
UKCLE (UK Centre for Legal Education) has been contracted to conduct the independent research while former Simmons & Simmons senior partner Dame Janet Gaymer and Sir Mark Potter have been appointed to chair the consultation panel.
“It was most important that we attracted the right people to lead the consultation with stakeholders,” explained Charles Plant chair of the SRA. “Dame Janet and Sir Mark have a vast experience both through the practice of law and in issues related to legal education and training.”
The consultation panel will provide the hub of the review, inviting key stakeholders to supply advice and direction to the project.
Review 2020 will examine routes to qualification and the requirements placed on law schools in light of the likely future shape of the legal market (read more).
