National firm Irwin Mitchell and East Anglian outfit Birketts are among the last firms to publish their retention results for this autumn.
Irwin Mitchell has retained 36 out of 45 of its qualifiers, exactly matching its 2013 result. It kept on 30 of 40 qualifiers, or 75 per cent, in 2012.
Meanwhile, Birketts kept on all eight of its second-year trainees upon qualification. Half of those eight join the firm’s Ipswich office as newly-qualified (NQ) solicitors, going to the employment, shipping, property and corporate teams. Two more will work in Chelmsford, in commercial litigation and corporate. The remaining two NQs will be based in the agriculture team in Norwich and the Cambridge construction group.
Some 43 firms have now revealed their retention results for autumn 2014. Birketts is the tenth firm to announce 100 per cent retention. Overall, 810 out of 973 qualifiers are stying with the firm that trained them – just over 83 per cent. This is not quite as good as the spring 2014 round, when 86 per cent of 526 qualifiers were retained.
