Herbies’ retention climbs to 90 per cent

Herbert Smith Freehills has revealed an increased retention rate of 90 per cent for its spring 2014 qualifiers.

The City firm offered 38 trainees, from a cohort of 42, newly-qualified (NQ) roles at the firm. Of those, all 38 accepted.

Of the 38 trainees, 33 will qualify into the London office, two will work in Belfast, one will head for Dubai to work in the office’s dispute resolution practice and the remaining two will work in the Tokyo dispute resolution department and the Brussels competition practice.

 In London, two trainees will work in the competition department, 12 trainees will qualify into corporate, 12 will head for dispute resolution, four will work in the finance department and another three will qualify into real estate.

The rate marks Herbies’ best result since spring 2011, when it also hit 90 per cent retention. Last autumn, it kept on 30 out of 34 qualifiers, or 88 per cent.
