The number of Scottish traineeships rose by 2 per cent in 2014/15, the Law Society of Scotland has announced.
Some 540 training contracts were started in 2014/15, up from 530 the previous year.
The number of training contracts on offer has steadily risen in Scotland, though it cannot compare with the number on offer in England and Wales, where some 5,000 trainees are registered.
Three quarters of Scottish training contracts are located in Edinburgh or Glasgow, with smaller markets in Aberdeen and Dundee.
The Law Society of Scotland data also showed that 11 per cent of all training contracts in Scotland are in-house, while about one-third are at law firms with 30 or more partners.
