Freshfields retains 89 per cent of NQs

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has posted a 89 per cent newly qualified (NQ) retention rate for September 2012.

The magic circle firm offered 43 NQ roles to its 46-strong trainee cohort, with 41 opting to stay with the firm.

The result shows a drop from its autumn 2011 qualifying round where the firm held onto 48 out of 50 trainees, giving it a 96 per cent retention rate.

Freshfields is the second magic circle firm to reveal its September 2012 NQ retention rate, after Clifford Chance retained 77 per cent, keeping 48 out of 62 trainees (24 July 2012).

Meanwhile, SJ Berwin has retained 64 per cent of its 42 qualifying trainees. The firm offered 28 jobs to the 39 trainees that applied for NQ roles and 27 accepted positions.

Elsewhere, Field Fisher Waterhouse and Howard Kennedy revealed strong results, posting 85 per cent and 100 per cent respectively (3 August 2012).
