The Junior Lawyers Division (JLD) has invited nominations for its 11th annual pro bono awards.
The awards are to recognise associates, trainee solicitors and students who have provided free legal services to the community in the UK and abroad, with discretionary cash prizes of up to £1,000 being available to support the pro bono projects of the winners.
Chair of the JLD Pro Bono Awards Kevin Poulter said: “’Perhaps now more than ever, with so many people affected by the downturn, the pro bono services provided by junior lawyers and the whole profession are even more essential to ensure true access to justice.”
The following prize categories are open for nominations: solicitor active in UK-based local projects; solicitor active in international projects; team of solicitors active in UK-based or international projects; pro bono trainee or trainee team of the year; and pro bono student or student team of the year.
The awards are open to the entire JLD membership, which includes LPC students, trainee solicitors and solicitors up to five years qualified.
The closing date for nominations is 11 September 2009 and nomination forms can be downloaded from the JLD websitejuniorlawyers.lawsociety.org.uk.
The awards ceremony will take place on 12 November 2009 during National Pro Bono Week.
