Fieldfisher posts 100% retention

Fieldfisher has handed newly-qualified (NQ) solicitor roles to all of its trainees qualifying this autumn.

All 11 qualifiers will stay on at the firm, which rebranded itself from Field Fisher Waterhouse earlier this year.

The result marks an increase on 2013’s retention rate, when 12 of 17 qualifiers remained, including five on 12-month fixed-term contracts. The firm confirmed that none of the 2014 NQs is on a fixed-term contract.

Of the five 2013 NQs who were on a fixed-term contract, three are now with Fieldfisher on a permanent basis. The other two resigned before the end of their fixed term contract, both to take in-house roles, before the time to make any decision on whether or not to make them permanent had been reached. Fieldfisher training principal Edward Miller also said that another of the 2013 qualifiers, who was not retained as a solicitor but who stayed with the firm in another fee-earning role, has now been given a permanent contract as a solicitor.

Of the 2014 qualifiers, three will join the firm’s finance group and three more will go into the technology, outsourcing and privacy practice. Two go to IP/IT litigation while the final three take up jobs in the firm’s funds, dispute resolution and public regulatory teams.

Autumn 2014: 11 out of 11 (100 per cent)

Autumn 2013: 12 out of 17, including five on fixed-term contracts (71 per cent)
