Shearman & Sterling is adding a client workshop to its summer vacation scheme this year as it seeks ways to make its trainees more commercially aware.
The firm has asked three of its clients including Arun Daniel from Credit Suisse, Simon Cliff from Manchester City FC and Leigh Hoolihan of GE Corporate Finance Bank SAS, to make a series of presentations to candidates describing the relationships between law firms and their clients.
HR manager Lois Gordon said: “We want to give students a different perspective so that they’re more aware of what clients take into consideration when choosing a law firm. It’s really to give them the bigger picture and improve their commercial awareness.”
The news comes after Hammonds added a client panel interview to its summer vacation scheme last year (see story).
As part of the process clients were given the opportunity to grill candidates and offer their opinions on how they would rate them as part of their client team.
