The Society of Black Lawyers and Black Students’ Campaign have joined forces to host the first national conference for ethnic minority law students.

The “Legal Futures Conference”, to be held at London’s Birkbeck College on Saturday 6 November, will provide a forum for BME students to network with each other, share experiences and highlight the challenges and opportunities that exist for aspiring lawyers.

Speakers at the one-day conference include chief executive of the Legal Services Board Chris Kenny, chief executive of the Legal Services Commission Carolyn Downs, Jo Sidhu vice chair of the Bar Council’s equality and diversity committee and Lawyer 2B editor Husnara Begum.

Topics to be covered at the conference include the future of the legal profession and political economy of legal education and training.
