Bird & Bird is sending a trainee on secondment to Sydney for the first time.

The firm has 28 offices across Europe, Asia and the Middle East and has previously seconded trainees to offices including Brussels and Madrid.

However, this is the first time it has sent one to Australia, following its merger in 2014 with Sydney firm Truman Hoyle.

Second-year trainee Sam Triggs will spend three months there from March in an IP-focused seat.

Other firms that have sent trainees to Sydney over the years include Baker & McKenzie, DLA Piper, Herbert Smith Freehills, Norton Rose Fulbright and Slaughter and May.
