Ashurst has revealed that it will retain 96 per cent of its spring 2014 qualifiers.
The City firm stated that that of 24 trainees, 23 applied for roles at the firm all of whom were successful.
All but one of the trainees are qualifying into the London office. The remaining trainee will work in Abu Dhabi, in its energy, resources, real estate and infrastructure (ERRI) group.
Of those remaining in London, eight will work in the ERRI group, six will qualify into the finance department, a further six into the corporate, competition and tax groups, with the final two trainees joining the dispute resolution practice.
Ashurst training principal David Jones said: “We’re really pleased with the trainee rate. The calibre of trainees is exceptional. We always try to retain as many as we can and we are confident that they will be superb additions to the business.”
Last summer, the firm vowed to review its promotion and development protocols when it emerged that every September 2013 qualifying trainee who failed to secure an NQ role came from a BME (black and minority ethnic) background. Ashurst denied that its selection process was subject to any bias, saying: ”We are confident our selection processes at trainee and NQ level are objective and fair.” (11 July 2013).
The firm added at the time: “We are currently reviewing development and promotion systems to check for potential bias affecting under-represented groups.”
