Chicago's Winston & Strawn is ignoring the volatile UK legal market and forging ahead with plans to open a London office by the end of the year. Winston, which has been eyeing the London market for a while, will make a push into corporate and transactional work and intends to take on both UK and US-qualified lawyers.
So far the firm has only a scant presence in Europe, with offices in Paris and Geneva.
Of the UK move, New York managing partner Robert Bostrum said: “We've always been cautious. Our strength is we make sure we get a return on the investment in year one, and there's enough opportunities in London to achieve that.”
A spokesperson told Lawyer 2B that it is still too early to define the firm's approach to trainee recruitment.
