Why do firms ask whether or not you have applied to them before and is it worth applying for a training contract to a firm which rejected me for a vacation scheme?

Its important to understand if a candidate has applied before as this may provide firms with a more detailed picture of a candidates ability, an assessment record for instance. It can also show how focused a candidate is on the firm. Firms differ as to whether you can apply for a training contract having been rejected for a vacation scheme. At BLP we use the same assessment criteria for both training contracts and vacation schemes, and as a result if youre unsuccessful for a vacation scheme you cannot apply the same recruitment year for a training contract. You can, however, apply the following year. Its best to check with each firm before you apply again.
