UCL raises funds for two new academics

University College London (UCL) has embarked on a fund-raising exercise to create two new senior academic roles in a bid to plug academic gaps at the Faculty of Laws.

Ian Dennis, law department head, said the faculty was aiming to raise around 2m to fund two new senior positions a chair in IP and a chair in Chinese law.

Dennis said: “Were lacking a full-time senior post in IP. In that sense, its a gap.”

The faculty is hoping to raise the funds from wealthy private donors within the next 12 months. It launched the fund-raising effort at a dinner on Monday 24 January, attended by its most famous alumni, Lord Woolf, the Lord Chief Justice.
