Theodores drops March student intake

City firm Theodore Goddard has scrapped its March intake of trainees as a result of a dwindling number of students willing to start at that time of year.

Monica Burch, a partner in the dispute resolution group, said the move would not have an impact on the number of trainees taken on each year, which remains at 20. “Running an induction programme for two people was not viable,” she said. “Just having two people was also isolating for the train-ees and it took them longer to get to know others in the firm.”

Any trainees who were lined up to start in March have been offered September 2002 or 2003 alternatives.

Rising student debts hampering post-university travelling plans are said to be responsible for the lack of interest in the spring starting dates.
