Student rights

The Snail has learned of one US law student who is balancing his degree with running a $10m (6.2m) legal battle over a Picasso painting. According to reports just in from California, Berkeley law student Tom Bennigson is fighting for the rights to a Picasso original, which he claims was stolen from his grandmother by the Nazis during World War II. The painting, Femme en Blanc, resurfaced in the mid-1970s when it was purchased by a collector. After a year of unsuccessful negotiations, Bennigson and the current owners are now arguing over ownership rights in the Chicago courts, with the law student insisting that he should be given either the painting or the $10m sum.
