Teenagers believe that the legal sector has the
best career prospects across all sectors, according to research by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).
The survey by the DfESs FoundationDegreesarm found that law was the top teen choice of the professional sectors, beatingITand finance/accountancy into second and third places respectively.
However, the survey also found that 68 per cent of teens interested in law did not feel that they had a sufficiently strong understanding of the range of jobs available in the legal sector. As a result, one in three stated that they would be put off applying, believing that they would not have the qualifications needed for a career in the field.
A Foundation Degrees spokeswoman said: As the career of choice for many young people, the legal profession stands in a strong position to profit from the fantastic drive and ambition in tomorrows workforce. But employers in the sector need to make sure that these young people know that the door is open to them.
