Top-10 City firm Herbert Smith is in the early stages of overhauling its trainee pre-selection process in a move that may result in the introduction of an additional test.
The firm has consulted several internet providers with a view to rolling out a web-based case study. This would be completed at the same time as the firm’s online application form, which focuses on academic results as well as some more practical attributes, such as commercial awareness.
Successful applicants are invited to an assessment day involving a case-study exercise, an interview with two partners and an informal tour of the firm’s London office with a current trainee.
This initiative, which comes in direct response to the improving A-level results, aims to facilitate and improve the pre-selection process.
Herbert Smith receives up to 2,000 applications each year for approximately 80 training contract places and conducts between 250 and 300 interviews.
