A pair of law students from De Montfort University have been awarded 7,500 to help them launch a ‘street law’ scheme for school children.
Anne Stocks, 22, and Katherine Hui, 19, won first prize in the annual De Montfort University Student Learning Awards, for their plan to develop and deliver an interactive law presentation at youth clubs, schools and colleges.
The scheme aims to boost pupils’ knowledge of their legal rights, in line with the requirements of Citizenship, a new subject brought into the National Curriculum earlier this year.
Stocks said the project has “great potential”. She said: “It can help young people understand how the law relates to them and the consequences of decisions they might make.”
The students plan to use the money to fund street law events and resources.
