Cambridge Uni spurns Government top-up fees

Cambridge University has become the first institution to reject Government proposals to introduce top-up fees, which would saddle students with even bigger debts.

Many research-based institutions support the plans that will be formally announced in January 2003. London&#39s Imperial College has already said its tuition fees will rise to £10,500 if the Government gives the all-clear. However, Cambridge, which was named as the best place to study law in a survey earlier this year, said it had no plans to hike its fees.
