Arnold & Porter’s UK office takes on trainees

US firm Arnold & Porter is recruiting its first ever trainees, due to start in the London office in autumn 2004.

Andrew Hooles, a partner in the intellectual property and technology group, said five training contracts would be offered with a minimum starting salary of £30,000 per year.

Fellow US firm Weil Gotshal & Manges pays London trainees £35,000, while last year White & Case offered £33,000.

Hooles said the trainees will need to get used to the firm&#39s “interesting way of operating”, which puts lawyers from different specialist areas in the same office.

Arnold & Porter has already received a “substantial” number of applications for the eight summer placements that are also available.
