UCL beats London rivals at Dechert quiz night

Husnara Begum

University College London (UCL) has triumphed at an inter-collegiate quiz hosted by law firm Dechert.

Student law society members from UCL, Kings College London and the London School of Economics battled it out against each other with UCL scooping both the first and second prizes. The winning team, which comprised James Campbell, Eugenie Joathon, Christian Osborne and Chris Ratcliffe, won 500 for the UCL law society.

The general standard was high but some of the questions produced some amusing answers.

In the picture round Cecilia Sarkozy, France's former first lady, was confused for actress Liz Hurley and Calvin Klein model Christy Turlington, Lord Denning was thought to be J.R.R. Tolkien and Harold Pinter, while Diana Ross was identified as Twiggy.

Two teams also thought an MBO was a Member of the British Order instead of management buyout and one team thought Charles Dickens wrote TV legal drama Rumpole of the Bailey.
