Clydes NQ retention rate rises to 94 per cent

Clyde & Co’s autumn newly qualified (NQ) retention rate has risen to 94 per cent from 77 per cent at the same point in 2011.

The law firm, which is the final top 20 firm to confirm its NQ rate, announced it is keeping 34 out of 36 qualifying trainee solicitors.

Last year the firm held on to 20 qualifiers from its 26-strong cohort.

Clydes’ retention rate announcement comes after Eversheds and Irwin Mitchell both revealed drops in NQ retention for September 2012 to 84 per cent and 75 per cent respectively (18 September 2012).

Out of the top 20 firms, Clydes and Bird & Bird were the only firms to achieve a retention rate of over 90 per cent, while SJ Berwin was the weakest performer with a retention rate of 64 per cent (3 August 2012).
