  • I'm astonished this hasn't made bigger waves, and isn' t on the home page of The Lawyer proper. CoL is a charity, and the fact that it has been allowed to sell its core activity in the name of converting into a charity fund instead verges on the scandalous.

  • If any bonus is paid to Nigel Savage on top of his totally scandalous salary of almost £500,000 then it should be covered on the front page of The Lawyer.

  • Ian Austin, latterly the boss of Halliwells, would have been the ideal man to advise on this sort of deal.

  • Presumably Montagu will want to recoup its investment. It will have to do that by selling off property, reducing teaching hours or increasing class sizes. Either that, or it could use the revenue from the tuition fees.

If the latter, why couldn't the College just have used that to give out more scholarships? This is an absolutely dog of a deal for the college and its students. Wonder how much Savage will get?

  • Will the CoL still have charitable status? This is a joke.

  • would actually be interesting if you guys could do a piece on how Montagu plan to monetise this... Mr123 makes a good point re using tuition fees to make their profit..
