University College London (UCL) has snapped up well-known academic Richard Moorhead to chair its centre for ethics and law.
Moorhead, who will join in September 2012 from Cardiff Law School, is expected to boost research and establish a high calibre teaching agenda at the UCL centre, which was established in 2009.
In a statement Moorhead said: “Regulators are shifting from compliance to more substantive modes of regulation. The legal professions in particular are going through paradigm-busting shifts, which challenge their ethics and their identities.
“As academics we have a tremendous opportunity to engage with those constituencies. We can do so conceptually and through applied research skills and should lead with ideas.”
Moorhead’s main research interests have been access to justice, lawyer ethics, legal services and the regulation of legal systems.
At Cardiff, the former chairman of the Trainee Solicitors’ Group and Young Solicitors’ Group teaches an undergraduate course on lawyers: practice and ethics and LLM course on commercial legal practice.
