  • The only good thing about paying a pupil this pitiful wage is that said pupil will almost certainly be devoted to being a barrister. However, most would-be lawyers will favour the solicitor advocate route if they’re that intent on performing in court regularly.

  • It's about time. Most civil sets pay more than the minimum anyway, but it's good that aspiring barristers will have something closer to a living wage. Still not enough to live on, but better.

  • This is all very well and good, but isn't there a potential for the number of pupillages available to be adversely affected by those chambers only able to offer the old minimum of £10,000?
