The Law Society careers event
The Law Society, in association with the Association of Muslim Lawyers, the Black Solicitors Network, the Lawyers with Disabilities Division, the Society of Asian Lawyers and the Junior Lawyers Division, has developed an event that aims to prepare students for a career in the legal profession.
Date: 27 May 2009
Time: 9.15am - 4.40pm
Venue: The College of Law, 133 Great Hampton Street, Birmingham, B18 6AQ. The venue is near the town centre and is accessible from New Street railway station. Please note that additional venue details, including a map, will be forwarded with a confirmation letter. The venue has a reasonable level of access. However please indicate on the booking form if you have any particular access needs.
Who should attend? The event is aimed at undergraduates and LPC students. It aims to cover all aspects of preparation for a career in the legal profession including routes to qualification, completing applications and interview techniques. Delegates will also be given an insight into the alternative career options offered by different types of employers within the legal profession. There will be a choice of breakout sessions on the work of an in-house solicitor and a private practice solicitor.
The event is free to all students.

DLA Piper First Year Insight Day

Event details: The Insight Day will give you the opportunity to:
- Meet with trainees, associates, partners and graduate recruitment
- Gain an understanding about what life is really like as a commercial solicitor and the skills you will need to do well
- Get an overview of different departments
- Hear hints and tips for making successful applications

JLD annual conference and ball

Event details: Booking is now open for the second JLD annual conference and ball, to be held on Saturday 11 July at Birmingham City Football club. Gain 4.5 CPD hours at the conference with sessions including: top tips for becoming a superstar associate, the future of the training contract and potential career paths. Although I returned home from work utterly exhausted yesterday I managed to squeeze out enough energy to have a heated discussion with my husband about the lack of quality careers advice on offer to students at state secondary schools.
